Eva Cellini grew up in Hungary between the two World Wars. She graduated from the School of Applied Arts in Budapest and in 1949 began her professional work as a commercial artist. Formal
and rigorous training taught her how to paint with extraordinary skill but
conditions in Hungary offered few outlets for her creative talents. After
the Soviet invasion of the country in 1956, Eva and her artist husband fled
to Austria and soon found a permanent home in New York. A short time after
their arrival in the United States the couple earned a reputation as highly
respected designers and illustrators. Their work was sought after nation-wide. Eva
began to produce paintings of amazing luminosity and inspired vision. She
has had solo exhibitions at Aberbach Fine Art, New York, in 1987 and 1989;
the Grand Palais, Paris, France, in 1990 and 1992; the Bergen Museum of Arts
and Sciences in 1992; at Magidson Fine Arts, New York, in 1993; Eva
Cellini’s work continues to be influenced by the experiences of her
youth. Her paintings are full of the symbols of her creative exploration.
Recurring objects, such as flowers and keys speak of the blossoming of her
spirit and the promise of mysteries yet to be uncovered. Delighting the eye,
her images often appear surreal at first glance but their meaning is accessible
